Holy mosque in Mecca
Prophet Muhammad was born and raised in Mecca until the age of 40 at which time the first revelation came to him. He used to like to go to a cave at mount Hira for solitude to worship God. During one of his stays the angel Gabriel came to him and said, "Read." He answered, "I'm not one of those who can read." Then the angel squeezed and then released him and said again, "Read." To which he replied, "I'm not one of those who can read." Then he was squeezed and released again saying, "Read." To which he replied, "I'm not one of those who reads." The angel squeezed him again for the third and fine time and when he released the prophet he said:
"Read in the name of your lord, who has created all that exists. He has created man from a clot. Read! And your lord is the most gracious, who has taught writing by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not."{Quran 95: 1-5}
Hira Cave in the Mountain of Light
Because of the hostile situations in Mecca for the Prophet and the other Muslims, God ordered them to migrate. For further details on the subject of the Prophet's migration check out: The Prophet of Mercy .Upon leaving Mecca the Prophet said, "By God, you are indeed the best of God's lands, and the most beloved of God's lands to God. And had I not been expelled from you, I would not have left."
The polytheists if Mecca had created a plan to kill the Prophet before he could migrate however their plan was not successful and so the polytheists pursued the
Prophet and his companion Abu Bakr. The two hide in a cave in the Mount of Thaur. The polytheists came so close to the cave that the Prophet could see them yet they were not discovered, to find out more go to: The Prophet of Mercy .
On the out skirts of Medina the Prophet stopped and stayed for 13 to 19 nights during which time he built the Quba mosque and prayed in it. He then mounted his camel and continued on to Medina.
The Prophet entered Medina on his camel, while people walked beside him, he continued on until his camel kneeled, he dismounted and said, "This God willing is the place." Meaning the place where he would build the mosque. To read more about the construction of the Prophet's mosque, visit: The Prophet of MercyBy: Amena Jacobs
